Clinical Practice

Andrew is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a strong focus on sports surgery, offering state-of-the-art soft tissue and joint-preservation techniques for athletes of all ages and levels. His practice emphasises conditions of the ankle, knee and shoulder. In addition, Andrew manages hip and knee joint replacement, including robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery. He also provides trauma services for both adults and children. In addition to his main practice at Hollywood Private Hospital in Nedlands, he consults at Joondalup Health Campus, providing private consultations, private and public operating, and trauma services.

 

Background & Training

Andrew studied Medicine at the University of Western Australia before completing his orthopaedic surgical training. He then undertook extensive fellowship training overseas, beginning at UniSports in Auckland, New Zealand, under Mr Stuart Walsh, Mr Michael Rosenfeldt, Professor Bruce Twaddle and Mr Jeremy Stanley, with specialised training in soft tissue and joint preservation surgery. As part of the UniSports team, Andrew was involved in the care of national and international athletes, including Olympic competitors, the All Blacks, Auckland Warriors, Auckland Blues, Rugby 7s teams, the Touch Blacks and the Northern Mystics. He completed further fellowship training in Paediatric Orthopaedics at Starship Children’s Hospital, New Zealand’s leading paediatric facility. Before returning to Perth, Andrew undertook observerships in Switzerland and the United States, including:

 

  • Kantonsspital Baselland, Switzerland – arthroplasty and trauma surgery
  • R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore, USA
  • Harbor-UCLA, Los Angeles, USA
  • HOAG Institute, Irvine, California, USA – direct anterior total hip replacement
