Dr Sayce is a Provisional Fellow in Pain Medicine, qualified GP Anaesthetist and former Military Doctor. He holds a Science Degree from the Australian National University and a Medical Degree from the University of Sydney; he spent several years in the Australian Army comprising multiple overseas deployments including Afghanistan working as an emergency doctor, retrieval doctor and primary care physician. During this period, he attained a fellowship from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Subsequently he undertook four years of Anaesthetic training in Sydney and Port Macquarie and discovered a passion for pain medicine. He worked for several years as an Emergency and GP Anaesthetist in rural and remote indigenous communities across remote WA, QLD and NSW before commencing formal Specialist Pain training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2020.
Dr Sayce currently works as a Provisional Pain Fellow for Gold Coast Health and John Flynn Private Hospital and as an Emergency Doctor at Byron Central and Murwillumbah Hospitals.
Dr Sayce’s professional interests include trauma and emergency medicine, anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, acute and chronic pain management. He has a special interest in transitional pain and assisting those with cancer and end of life pain. He is a passionate advocate for those experiencing pain.
Personally, Dr Sayce is a keen mountain biker, loves being outdoors and is heavily involved in CrossFit.
