Dr Katherine Zhu is a colorectal and general surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive surgery. She graduated from the University of New South Wales with Honours. She completed General Surgical training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.
Dr Zhu undertook further post-fellowship sub-specialist training in colorectal surgery at Wollongong Hospital. Subsequently, she trained under the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia & New Zealand (CSSANZ) at The Alfred Hospital Melbourne and Concord General & Repatriation Hospital.
Academically, Dr Zhu has a Masters of Surgery from the University of Surgery, in association with the Institute of Academic Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. In addition to multiple scientific publications, Dr Zhu is also a reviewer for the Australia & New Zealand Journal of Surgery.
Dr Zhu treats all aspects of colorectal surgery, including colorectal cancer, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease and anorectal conditions (such as haemorrhoids, rectal prolapse, anal fissures and fistulae). These can often be performed with minimally invasive surgery. Dr Zhu performs endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), as well as general surgical procedures (such as hernia repair and gallbladder surgery).
