Dr Amani Harris is an obstetrician and gynaecologist with experience in advanced laparoscopic and robotic gynaecological surgery. Her interests include endometriosis including severe endometriosis, complex hysterectomy, hysteroscopic surgery, adenomyosis, pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, myomectomy and ovarian cysts.
Dr Harris holds the highest level of accreditation (RANZCOG/AGES Level 6) in Advanced Laparoscopic Gynaecological Surgery in Australia obtained through completing a prestigious two-year AGES fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Monash Health, Melbourne. Prior to this, she completed a one-year fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the Sydney West Advanced Pelvic Surgery Unit (SWAPS). She undertook her obstetrics and gynaecology specialist training at Westmead Hospital and completed a Master of Advanced Gynaecological Surgery from Western Sydney University and a Master of Reproductive Medicine (with excellence) from the University of New South Wales.
Dr Harris is currently an AGES board director, a society that promotes the safest and highest standards of clinical and minimally invasive surgical care for women. Dr Harris is a co-founder and Director of Training at the AGES accredited, Sydney Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery unit (SMIGS), where she trains the next generation of laparoscopic surgeons. Recently she was a board member representing the Pacific Rim/India/Asia region of the American Association of Gynaecological Laparoscopists (AAGL), which is the largest international medical association advancing health care for women through excellence in clinical practice, education, research, innovation, and advocacy.
These board positions provide an exceptional platform for Dr Harris to engage with leading surgeons all around the world, sharing ideas and building relationships to further strengthen research and education in women’s health. They also provide an opportunity for advocacy of women, working towards equity in healthcare, which is a major interest of hers. She is frequently an invited speaker at domestic and international conferences and workshops on gynaecological conditions, such as endometriosis and adenomyosis.
