Dr James C. Walker has been providing safe, high quality eye care for patients on the Sunshine Coast since 2004. His special interests include cataract, pterygium, strabismus (eye misalignment), neuro-ophthalmology (brain disorders affect the eyes), eyelid procedures including the use of botulinum toxin (facial movement disorders and strabismus), lasers and medical management of macular and retinal disease.

Dr Walker graduated from medicine at the University of Adelaide in 1994 and completed his specialist training in Ophthalmology in South Australia in 2002. He pursued further education and training with advance training posts fellowships at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and Oxford Eye Hospital, Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford achieving full recognition as an Ophthalmologist in the UK. He also trained at the Children’s Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago before returning to Australia in late 2004.
Dr James C. Walker continues to be involved in training future ophthalmologists and other ophthalmic health staff both locally, through the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Health Service as the Director of Ophthalmology, as well as providing VMO services in ophthalmology and maintaining staff training to rural and remote communities (from Mount Isa to surrounding districts). He also volunteers providing overseas in-country training to eye specialists in places like Myanmar, Vietnam, Mongolia, Cambodia through Sight For All.
He strives to keep up with the latest surgical advances including intraocular lens implantation, intravitreal therapy, and therapeutic laser procedures while trying to maintain work-life balance without compromising patient care or outcomes.
