Dr Nay Htun undertook his cardiology advanced training at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne (2009-2011). He was awarded PhD Medicine in 2016 by Monash University for his research focusing on detecting vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques which were at high risk of progression to heart attacks and strokes. He presented his PhD thesis at the Annual Scientific Meeting of Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (2015) as a finalist of the Ralph Reader Prize, the most prestigious award awarded to Young Investigators by the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. He has published widely in prestigious peer-reviewed journals including “Nature Communications” and “JACC Cardiovascular Interventions”.
Dr Nay Htun spent two years (2015-2017) at St Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, Canada which is a premiere centre for complex coronary and structural heart interventions under the mentorship of Professor John Webb, one of the world leaders in structural heart interventions including transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Since his return to Melbourne in 2017, Dr Nay Htun has been practising as a cardiologist both in public (Alfred Hospital, Frankston Hospital, Latrobe Regional Hospital) and private (Peninsula Private Hospital) settings.
He sees adult patients with all aspects of cardiology issues and performs coronary angiogram/ stents as well as structural heart interventions (TAVI, ASD/PFO closures, LAA occlusion, Percutaneous mitral valve interventions, Alcohol septal ablation for HOCM, etc) in both public and private hospitals.
