Dr. Daniel Chan is a General Surgeon with an interest in Bariatric surgery, Upper GI surgery and therapeutic endoscopy. He has interests in management of upper gastrointestinal conditions, both benign and malignant. Dr. Daniel Chan is a general surgeon with an interest in upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery. He is an academic surgeon with clinical research interests and works as VMO Surgeon at St George Public and Private Hospitals. Sydney-born Dr Chan earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from UNSW in 2011 and a Master of Public Health from the University of Queensland in 2017. He trained at St George Hospital, completing his residency and surgical training before obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019.
Dr. Chan pursued advanced post-fellowship subspecialty training both in Australia and internationally. He completed clinical fellowships at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prince of Wales Hospital (Hong Kong) and St George Hospital (Sydney). Selected for the AANZGOSA post-fellowship training program, he further specialised in Upper GI surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital.
Passionate about research and medical education, Dr Chan has over 50 peer-reviewed publications in Upper GI surgery, bariatric surgery, surgical oncology, and therapeutic endoscopy. In 2021, he earned an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) through UNSW, where he lectures and supervises BSc (Medicine) Honours students.
