Dr Raffi Qasabian is a vascular surgeon at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney and Strathfield Private Hospital. After his training in Australia, he completed a fellowship in the Department of Vascular Surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London in 2007, where he gained valuable experience in vascular surgery, in particular thoracic endografting. His current practice includes both open and endovascular surgery in Sydney, and for more than a decade, he has been providing a monthly vascular surgical service in Tamworth, regional NSW. Dr Qasabian is involved in ongoing research initiatives through RPAH.
As well as his clinical work, Dr Qasabian is a keen teacher, having been, until recently, the co-ordinator of the surgical program for 3rd year medical students at RPAH, and he plays an active role in the preparation of general surgical and vascular registrars for their fellowship examination.
Dr Qasabian served on the NSW State Committee of the RACS for 9 years, the last two as its chairman. He was recently appointed onto the Court of Examiners of the RACS, and examines in Vascular Surgery.
Over the last 10 years, he has been providing a regular vascular service in Armenia and is establishing a school of vascular surgery there. He received the presidential medal from the President of Armenia in 2014 for his work.
