Waverley Private Hospital would like to introduce medical oncologist, Dr Georgios (George) Iatropoulos. George is an oncologist trained in the United Kingdom. Married to an Australian and charmed by the city of Melbourne, he relocated permanently and has been working in Melbourne since 2016.
He is highly skilled and experienced in the management of common cancers, with areas of expertise in gastro-oesophageal, liver, pancreatic, bile duct, colon, rectal, breast, lung, and prostate cancers.
He completed oncology training in some of the biggest UK hospitals, such as Guy’s and St Thomas’ (London), and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham), and on moving to Australia completed a two-year post-specialty fellowship at Austin Health/Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre, sub-specialising in Gastrointestinal and Breast cancers.
George has extensive clinical trial experience in Australia and overseas as an investigator in numerous clinical trials, some of which have been practice changing. He also holds a master’s degree in Cancer Biology, with his dissertation focusing on breast cancer chemo-prevention strategies.
In the cancer research field, he has achieved several distinctions, including scholarships from Australian and European academic institutes for cancer research (La Trobe University 2018, European Society of Medical Oncology 2009 and 2019). He proudly represented Australia in 2017 at a highly competitive international workshop on the development of new cancer clinical trials (19th MCCR) and has presented his work either through articles in journals or abstracts and oral presentations at conferences.
Through his years of experience and exposure in culturally diverse and demanding environments, he has a patient-centred and empathic approach.
