DEVELOPMENT NEWS Health Minister opens North Shore Private redevelopment North Shore Private is now truly private, with the official opening of its South Wing expansion - which includes 40 more beds, new patient lounges with panoramic harbour views and luxury parenting suites. Opened by the Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley in December, the hospital now guarantees every patient room is private – providing a more comfortable, quiet and patient-centred experience. North Shore Private CEO Mr Richard Ryan said that the new wing would also include eight new luxury parenting suites, fitted with double beds to provide family bonding time for new parents when they need it most. “We are with our maternity patients every step of the way, from emotional well-being assessments, through to a free celebration dinner for couples to in-hospital care at time of delivery,” says Mr Ryan. “We then provide a continuous loop of care post-delivery care via the Helping Hands Clinic, where new parents can return to hospital for one on one advice about baby feeding, sleeping and settling right up until the baby is aged one.” He said surgical patients would also benefit from the new renovations with patient lounges providing pleasant spaces for patients to recuperate in. The hospital was also last month rated as a Top 10 Hospital for Medical Team Recommendation – in the annual national HCF study of 11,000 patients, which asks public and private patients to rate their hospital experience. During the opening, Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley acknowledged the role of private hospitals for today’s health consumer. “Without a strong private health system you don’t have a strong health system,” she said. “We do rely on Australians who take out their own private insurance to supplement their care in the same way the system relies on parents who contribute to private school fees to leave the public system strong. New emergency department opened at Pindara Private Hospital… continued from page 1 4 The Ramsay Way 2016 | 04 “And as a government we recognise and respect the contribution that private hospitals make.” The Minister also reiterated that the government’s Private Health Sector Committee was committed to addressing the issues of private patients in public hospitals. “Up on the early order of business are private patients in public hospitals and junk policies – two things that have always stood out to me as features inside the system that we need to address earlier rather than later. Ramsay has stepped up and is contributing in a strong and meaningful way to these processes.” The Minister said that North Shore Private's new services “will be valued”. “By having this opening today what we’re recognising is expanded services in health and more access to health and again that strong public/private partnership that Ramsay should be so proud of.” “The emergency paediatric facilities combined with our dedicated on-site, paediatric, inpatient beds and outpatient suites make Pindara one of the only private hospitals to fully cater for your children’s needs,” according to Dr Paul Pluss. The Patients’ Waiting Lounge features calming murals of trees in autumn and a tranquil fountain to create a relaxing space. A screen has also been added which is updated in real time to display the expected waiting time, doctors on duty and the latest developments in the Hospital. IPads are also supplied for convenience and entertainment and allow patients to access a range of resources at the touch of a button. The Australasian College of Emergency Medicine has long recognised Pindara’s dedication to providing high-quality, emergency healthcare and Pindara continues to have the privilege of training new emergency specialists. Recognising how stressful it can be waiting for emergency assistance, the new Pindara aims to make the wait as short as possible and has gone as far as to develop a clock showing how long the wait is likely to be. This is updated in real-time and is displayed in the waiting room and on the Hospital website.
