Australia Day Honours for Westmead Private Peel nurse takes HESTA Graduate Nurse of the Year Award for WA The Ramsay Way 2017 | 01 13 Vale She will be missed. Enid Scott OAM Lake Macquarie Private Hospital founder, colleague and friend of many, Enid Scott passed away in early March 2017. Enid was a pioneer in the private hospital industry in the Hunter region as well as a role model for women in business. Her high clinical standards created a hospital that, to this day, sets a very high standard for other regional hospitals in Australia. The long association between the Scott family and Lake Macquarie Private Hospital began in the initial planning stages of 1969. With the completion of the hospital in 1973, John and Enid Scott with their two small children, Sandra and Martin, moved from their home to take up residence on site where they continued to live for the next 9 years. During that period, John Scott became the first CEO and Enid the Founding Matron/Director of Nursing, a position she held for the next 32 years. For the first 15 years, Enid worked the dual role of Ward Sister and Director of Nursing. Since opening the hospital has grown, from a 36 bed surgical unit employing 24 staff to 157 beds and over 500 staff. During Enid’s career, she was involved in three major redevelopments of the hospital including introduction of Cardiology and later Cardiac and Vascular surgery. In 1995, the hospital won the Australian Private Hospital Award for Excellence. It was with great pride that Enid was guest of honour at the hospital’s 40th Anniversary celebrations in 2013. Enid held a position on the Board of Lake Macquarie Private Hospital until 1997. The hospital was then purchased by Ramsay Health Care. In 2005 Enid was recognised for her contribution to private healthcare in the Hunter, receiving a Medal of the Order of Australia. Her considerable achievements were delivered with warmth, compassion and a wonderful sense of humour. Many of us looked up to her with great admiration. It was an Australia Day hat trick for Westmead Private staff this year with volunteer James Juillerat receiving a Highly Commended Senior Citizen of the Year while Dr Jenny King received an OAM for her service to obstetrics & gynaecology. Dr Philip Lee was named 2017 Citizen of the Year in the City of Parramatta’s Australia Day awards. Congratulations Westmead Private! Congratulations to Peel nurse Chelsea Marino for being awarded Hesta Graduate Nurse of the Year for WA. Chelsea came to Peel in the 2015 graduate intake and was nominated due to her excellence in nursing care and her rapport with patients. Along with being automatically nominated for the Hesta National Graduate Nurse of the Year Award Chelsea received a prize pack and cash prize from Hesta. Chelsea currently works in the hospital’s emergency department where she continues to provide high quality patient care. Well done Chelsea! Adjunct Professor Peter Heathcote said he is excited to be an integral part of USANZ, which provides education and advocacy for urologists and urological services, while also training, accrediting and examining trainee urologists. “Australian and New Zealand urologists are among the best in the world and I want to ensure our focus on excellence in training, research, clinical practice and, above all, patient care remains paramount,” said A/Prof Heathcote. “The use of robotics in surgery holds the key to our industry advancing beyond what is possible by human hand… I think it imperative that we start to look at ways to increase the awareness for these procedures.” RAMSAY PEOPLE Westmead Private volunteer James Juillerat with his Australia Day Award Graham King Relationship Manager Hesta, Chelsea Marino and Dani Barnes Acting Ramsay State Education Manager.
