Northside Group is excited to announce a new community partnership with the Sydney Youth Orchestras (SYO).
With four facilities across Sydney, Northside Group is
the largest provider of private mental health services in
New South Wales and is committed to delivering the best
possible care and treatment for people suffering a mental
health disorder.
With one in five Australians now affected with a mental
health problem, the group is proud to launch educational
workshops and support in the areas of prevention and
resilience training for community partners in a non-inpatient
setting to assist with this significant issue within
our society.
Sydney Youth Orchestras is the leading orchestral training
and education provider in New South Wales, with a
membership of more than 550 young musicians, aged
6–25, placed within 12 orchestras.
SYO teaches young musicians valuable practical skills,
transforming students into professionals and helping them
to contribute to Australia’s cultural landscape.
Northside Group CEO Anne Mortimer said: “We are very
excited about the year ahead”.
“The synergies between our two organisations were apparent
from our first meeting, and we welcome the opportunity to
support SYO’s youth and young adult population via our
‘Building Resilience’ mental health program.”
SYO General Manager Mia Patoulios said: “We are thrilled to
be a part of this unique partnership.”
“With Northside Group’s expert guidance, SYO aims to build
an environment for young musicians where all aspects of their
development are nurtured including positive mental health.
“SYO are also looking forward to supporting Northside
Group’s holistic approach through music programs that
enhance connectedness.”
The aim of the partnership is two-fold:
• Northside Group will provide an education program
delivered by expert clinicians to support SYO, their tutors,
performers and families in building everyday resilience and
dealing with issues such as performance anxiety.
• SYO will bring small orchestral groups into the St Leonards
Clinic on a monthly basis as part of the Northside Group’s
Social Health Program.
The 2019 program will include:
• Expert workshops on positive mental health strategies with
a focus on building resilience. Participants will include SYO’s
leadership group, SYO’s international touring group, SYO
performers undertaking the HSC and also the parents of
SYO performers.
• Monthly performances by SYO ensembles at Northside
Group St Leonards Clinic, as part of the inpatient social
health program.
