Funding boost for
Peel Health Campus
The Federal Health Minister the Honourable Greg
Hunt MP and the Federal Member for Canning
Andrew Hastie MP visited Peel Health Campus
(PHC) in February 2019 to pledge $25million
towards the hospital.
The funds will be spent on a $21million upgrade to the
emergency department, the construction of a new
community mental health facility and a refurbishment of the
medical imaging department.
Four million dollars will also be provided for a residential
eating disorder treatment centre.
PHC CEO, Dr Margaret Sturdy, welcomed the funds.
“This is great news for Peel residents and also for our
hospital,” she said.
“This funding will allow us to expand the emergency
department to meet the care needs of the 45,000 patients
we see each year.
“It will also allow us to separate the specific emergency
department clinical streams, provide much better patient
privacy, and enhance the overall patient experience.”
St Andrew’s Ipswich
Private Hospital opens
new renal dialysis unit
Patients in Ipswich, west of Brisbane, now have
access to the region’s first private renal dialysis
unit which has opened at St Andrew’s Ipswich
Private Hospital.
St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital CEO Jude Emmer
said: “The hospital team is delighted to now be able to
offer patients who live locally the opportunity to receive
treatment close to home.”
“Quality of life is an important factor for people with
chronic kidney disease. These patients usually have to
receive dialysis three times a week for up to five hours
at a time.”
“The fact that they no longer have to travel such
a long distance to receive treatment is a bonus
for them. Feedback from our patients has been
extremely positive.”

Sydney Roosters halfback Cooper Cronk and TV presenter
Tara Rushton have joined forces to officially open North Shore
Private Hospital’s new luxury birthing suites.
Both husband and wife were patients at the hospital in 2018;
Cooper received shoulder surgery following the NRL grand
final, while Tara gave birth to their son Lennox in July.
The couple said they valued the personalised care and respect
for privacy they received during their time in hospital.
North Shore Private Hospital CEO Richard Ryan said staff were
equally thrilled to care for the young family.
“We were really excited about having Cooper and Tara join
us to officially open the elegant refurbishment which has
been undertaken in the maternity unit at North Shore Private
Hospital,” Mr Ryan said.
“Seven birthing suites now have luxurious and spacious new
bathrooms; the makeover also includes a comfortable and
serene patient lounge and reception area.”
The event also included a charity element to support parents’
emotional wellbeing.
Cooper Cronk signed a Sydney Roosters jersey, which is being
auctioned by the Gidget Foundation to raise funds for its
emotional wellbeing program. A not-for-profit Gidget House is
now located on-site at North Shore Private.
Gidget Foundation Chair Kara Nicholls said: “North Shore
Private is only one of two hospitals currently running the
Gidget Foundation Australia emotional wellbeing program
– a screening program which enables expectant women to
partake in an antenatal emotional health check.”
“We know first-hand the joys and challenges that come with
pregnancy and parenthood. This is why everyone involved
with the Gidget Foundation is grateful and thankful to Richard
and his team at North Shore Private for not only their support,
but for recognising the importance of emotional wellbeing for
new parents and the need to provide them with support and
services,” Ms Nicholls said.
North Shore Private Hospital welcomes more than 2,500
babies each year. The maternity team takes pride in patient
safety and wellness, as well as being able to accommodate
individual needs
through pregnancy,
birth, postnatal care
and through the early
stages of parenting
and family life
together.
