Early Parenting Centre Milestones
Waverley Private Hospital
Almost 500 families have received
help through the Waverley Early
Parenting Centre since the facility
opened its doors one year ago.
Waverley Private Hospital CEO, Lisa
McFadden, said the response from
the community has been fantastic,
particularly because support is
available for babies aged up to
24 months.
“Our local obstetricians and parents
in the area, regional Victoria and
even interstate really appreciate
being able to access our valuable
services,” Ms McFadden said.
“We have an exceptional multidisciplinary team that works
really hard to individually tailor our program to help parents
overcome the physical, emotional and social challenges a
new baby can bring. Since we have opened our doors last
year we have helped many families including those with
multiple births access our services.”
The next step for Waverley Early Parenting Centre is to
expand services to include day programs with the hope
of providing assistance to those parents who are unable
to take advantage of the residential program.
Glengarry Private Hospital
Glengarry Early Parenting Centre has welcomed its 150th
patient six months after opening.
Mother-of-two, Brie, and her three month old Charlie
were the 150th admission to the service at Glengarry
Private Hospital.
The Early Parenting Centre opened on 2 May as a first-of-its-kind
facility in Perth’s northern suburbs.
30-year-old Brie sought help for her son Charlie, who was
having sleeping issues both day and at night.
Clinical nurse manager Miriam Krouzecky said she was not
at all surprised by the number of parents booking into
the service.
“The strong demand indicates that there is a real need in
the community for this service,” she said. “It is something
I’ve long suspected and the demand since we opened has
shown the proof of the pudding is in the eating!”
“Every baby is different, which can be very challenging for
parents – it is not just the first-time parents whose babies
may need help either.”

“Sometimes we see people who’ve had the text-book first
baby but their subsequent babies were completely different.”
She said the centre was helping local babies with sleep,
feeding, reflux, and colic and added that the approach was
very different to others service providers in Perth.
“I believe there has been a gap in the market for some time in
terms of the provision of more gentle settling techniques that
encourage attachment. We take great pride in working with
parents to find solutions that work for them and their baby –
or in some cases, babies!”
“The results we’ve had so far have been very encouraging,
the feedback from parents has been overwhelmingly positive
and it is a privilege to know we are making a difference to the
quality of the baby’s wellbeing.”
The service includes a paediatric consultation on admission
and personalised support from nurses experienced in
maternity, child health and infant development. It also
offers specialist referrals to psychologists and psychiatrists
if needed.
Mitcham Private Hospital
Mitcham Private Hospital has completed a refurbishment
of its Early Parenting Centre, converting previously shared
rooms to highly desirable single rooms.
All of the rooms have been upgraded with new fittings,
flooring and paint for a fresh new look. Parents and carers
will also benefit from relaxing in a new lounge area.
The primary focus of this refurbishment is to enhance patient
care by improving the hospital’s amenities with a more
contemporary environment and a guaranteed private room.
This new environment will build on Mitcham Early Parenting
Centre’s impressive reputation for providing families
with individual support and planning during their
residential stay.
40,000 reasons to
celebrate at Waverley
Waverley Private Hospital was thrilled to welcome
the birth of its 40,000th baby, who arrived safely in
the maternity ward.
Leo was helped into the world by midwife Tarana (pictured)
and placed into the arms of his proud mum and dad.
Maternity manager, Lisa Young, said Waverley’s model of
personalised care allowed parents to develop a special
partnership with the midwives who coordinate patient care to
provide the finest birthing and parenting experience possible.
“We have also recently had a full refurbishment of our
maternity unit and are able to provide parents with modern,
deluxe maternity suites that offer the ultimate in comfort
and privacy.”
