Construction has started on a $12 million
project to expand health care facilities and
create job opportunities at Kareena Private
Hospital in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire.
Patients will benefit from 38 new private rooms –
including a new ward for those who are admitted
to hospital – which includes both surgical and
medical beds.
Steven Rajcany, CEO of Kareena Private Hospital,
said it was important to create more single room
accommodation in order to cater for the demands
and expectations of patients and their families.
“We are pleased to be growing our surgical and
medical services to further increase our capacity
to care for the Sutherland community – as we have
been doing for more than 50 years,” Mr Rajcany said.
“This additional accommodation, coupled with our
six operating theatres, day surgery unit and intensive
care unit – means patients can seek all aspects
of their treatment needs without having to leave
the Shire.”
“It’s also a win for the community in terms of local
employment opportunities. Once complete, this
project will create an additional 15 to 20 full-time
nursing, administrative and support service jobs.
The new development builds on a $23 million dollar
investment at the hospital in 2014, which was the
site’s largest expansion to date.
Building works are expected to take approximately
12 months to complete.
completion of Ramsay Health Care’s largest brownfield development in recent times.
The event was attended by Member for Ipswich Jennifer
Howard, Ramsay Health Care CEO and Managing Director
Craig McNally, and Ramsay Australia CEO Danny Sims.
St Andrew’s Ipswich has confirmed itself as the region’s
chief quality provider of private health care services since
being acquired by Ramsay Health Care in 2005. Together
with previous investments, this major development ensures
the hospital is best placed to meet the growing health care
demands of the community.
St Andrew’s Ipswich welcomed the region’s first Private
Emergency Centre together with:
• A new Intensive Care Unit
• New operating theatres and sterilising department
• New Maternity Ward and three new labour delivery suites
• A six chair Renal Dialysis Unit
• 81 new private patient rooms (increasing capacity to 178 beds)
• A three level multi-deck car park
• A redesigned 21 bed Rehabilitation Ward
• A new eight chair Infusion Centre
• New front entry, expanded reception and retail pharmacy

The new on-site Ramsay Pharmacy offers expert advice
including:
• Diabetes support
• Weight management
• Home health care
• Asthma support
• Pain management
• Medication management
Completion of the development affords patients the choice
of receiving comprehensive care locally, without having to
travel to Brisbane to receive similar services. A new multi-deck
complimentary patient and guest car park also alleviates the
pressure of accessing the hospital when in need.
Patients, staff and visitors will benefit from new facilities
including:
• A state-of-the-art Stryker Integrated Orthopaedic
Operating Theatre
• A new Day of Surgery Admission Lounge
• New spacious ensuites for Surgical Ward (conversion from
shared to single)
• An expansion to the Central Sterile Services Department
(CSSD), Staff Room and Supply Area
• An upgrade to the Talford Lane car park
Hillcrest Rockhampton Private Hospital CEO, Fiona Hebbard,
said this was a very exciting development as it allowed the
hospital to grow surgical services across its specialties.
“The new state-of-the-art orthopaedic operating theatre will
provide Central Queensland patients with timely access
to private orthopaedic services. It is complimented by four
orthopaedic surgeons, an onsite Plaster Fracture Clinic and
Occupational Therapy Hand Clinic.”
The expansion of the CSSD includes additional sterilisation
equipment and larger facilities to support the increased
theatre activity.
All surgical patient admissions will now be conducted in the new
Day of Surgery Admission Lounge prior to surgery. The Surgical
Ward has been renovated to provide private bathrooms in each
of the single rooms which offer a more comfortable and private
atmosphere for patients.
The Talford Lane car park has also been upgraded to provide
plenty of on-campus parking, promoting easy access to
the hospital.
“The demand for our
services is constantly
growing and it is
wonderful that patients
are able to access private
health care locally.
We are committed to
further develop and
improve health services
to accommodate
patient demand across
the region.”
“The new development
has created additional
clinical and hospital
service roles which is a
great boost to our city.”
