Westmead Private
Hospital opens first stage
of major development
After a seven month construction, Westmead Private Hospital has opened
the first stage of a multimillion dollar redevelopment which includes a new
day surgery admission unit, a further operating theatre and extra ICU beds.
Hospital CEO Mike Flatley said the modifications and additions would provide greater
surgical capacity and additional critical care support but importantly, a better day surgery
experience for patients.
The second stage of development at Westmead will commence in 2018 and will include an
upgrade and expansion of the maternity service and additional surgical beds.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to further improve the capacity, look and feel of our
service at Westmead Private Hospital. Continuing to meet the expectations of our patient is
central to our focus,” Mike said.
Ramsay CEO Danny Sims and Deputy Chairman Peter Evans were in attendance for the
official opening of the first stage development recently. Long serving staff member (21 years)
Linda Bywater was the official ribbon cutter.

Ramsay invests in latest
Hollywood expansion
Following a period of significant growth,
Ramsay Health Care has committed to a multi-million
dollar investment in the next phase of
Hollywood Private Hospital’s expansion, through
the construction of four new state of the art
operating theatres.
Hollywood’s theatre complex will increase from 16 to 20
operating theatres to accommodate more surgery across
a wide range of specialties.
Hollywood Chief Executive Officer, Peter Mott, said
that the latest development is in response to rapidly
increasing demand for its services.
“Despite a challenging local economy, Hollywood’s
reputation as the preferred private hospital by an

increasing number of specialist surgeons, and their
patients, has resulted in us doubling our operating
theatre capacity over the past three years. Our market
share across a range of surgical areas has been steadily
increasing as we’ve invested in infrastructure and
technology and recruited a number of new specialist
surgeons.”
In November 2015, Hollywood opened the Anne Leach
Wing which comprised six additional operating theatres,
three new wards and a new kitchen. Construction of
the four new theatres will commence in October with
commissioning by November 2018.
Hollywood is the largest private hospital in Western
Australia and the largest Ramsay Hospital in Australia.
“Hollywood is ideally located in a major health precinct

comprising Sir Charles Gairdner and Perth Children’s
Hospitals, as well as a number of significant research
facilities”, Mr Mott said.
“We will continue to leverage the benefits of our co-location
to grow and expand the services we provide
where it makes sense to do so. Whilst this expansion
focusses on additional surgical services, we are also
planning further growth in a range of other clinical
services over the next few years.”
Hollywood cares for over 70,000 patients each year,
employs over 2,000 staff and has over 800 doctors
accredited to practise in the hospital. In addition to
enabling more patients to be cared for, the operating
theatre expansion will provide employment opportunities
for over 50 people.
