Linacre Private Hospital is the first
Ramsay hospital – and just the
second hospital in Australia – to
install the latest advancement in
surgical navigation for Ear Nose &
Throat (ENT) surgery.
The Medtronic StealthStation ENT Navigation
system allows the performance of more
complex procedures, while simultaneously
promoting great patient safety.
This technology is particularly important
during functional endoscopic sinus surgery
(FESS), endoscopic skull base procedures
and lateral skull base procedures, due to
the narrow confine of the sinonasal area
and its close relationship with the eye
and intracranial structures. Image-guided
surgery can lead to better patient outcomes,
potentially reducing peri-operative morbidity
and is associated with a lower risk of major
and total complications.
The Medtronic StealthStation ENT
Navigation System:
• Provides surgeons with three-dimensional
images of a patients anatomy such
as tumours, sinuses, and other critical
structures;
• Tracks surgical instruments and the
surgeon’s movements in real-time;
• Informs surgical decision-making before
and during surgery
The StealthStation ENT system provides
enhanced visualisation to surgeons and
also offers new software and hardware
innovations including Virtual Endoscopy,
which provides a simulated view of sinus
cavities previously inaccessible with a
traditional endoscope. Virtual Endoscopy
can be loaded with the patient’s preoperative
data to allow the surgeon to practice an
individual’s surgery before he or she enters
the surgical suite.
Dr Hari Jeyarajan, ENT, Head & Neck
and Skull Base Surgeon said the use of
intraoperative navigation to assist in modern
sinus surgery has greatly assisted surgical
training and safety over the past decade.
“It improves patient safety in advanced
skull base and revisions sinus surgery;
decreases operative time and reduces
the need for revision sinus surgery hence
greatly improving operative efficiency, and
greatly enhances surgical education for both
surgical trainees and operative assistants,” Dr
Jeyarajan said.
“The utility of intraoperative navigation in
modern sinus surgery is quickly becoming
standard practice worldwide. Linacre is
also the only private hospital in Australia to
provide the latest Medtronic system and
with the support provided by Medtronic, the
ENT operative staff are quickly becoming
proficient in its use and application.”
“This is why I now only perform my sinus
surgery at Linacre Private Hospital, as I am
confident that I can offer the best surgical
outcomes for my patients”.

joined by Senator Amanda Stoker for a tour
of the day oncology services in the Cyril
Gilbert Cancer Centre. They also visited
the Keith Payne Unit which specialises in
the treatment of veteran mental health
and learned about life-changing studies
underway through the Gallipoli Medical
Research Foundation.
The visit was facilitated by Ramsay Health
Care Australia CEO, Danny Sims, and
Greenslopes Private Hospital CEO,
