ramsaySANTÉ Ramsay Santé acquires leading hospital in Toulouse Ramsay Health Care has announced that its French subsidiary Ramsay Santé, has acquired Clinique de l’Union, a leading private hospital in Toulouse. Clinique de l’Union is a 531 bed medical, surgical and obstetric hospital treating 43,000 inpatients and 26,000 emergency presentations each year. In addition to providing a comprehensive range of medical, surgical and rehabilitation services, the hospital is distinguished by its high standards in neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, vascular, urology, gynaecology and digestive surgery. The hospital is well-recognised as a leading hospital in France achieving a fourth place ranking in Le Point’s 50 best hospitals in France in 2012 and rating sixth on Le Figaro’s Honour list also in 2012. The acquisition of Clinique de l’Union is Ramsay Santé’s second acquisition since Ramsay acquired 57% of the French hospital operator in 2010 and follows the purchase of Clinique Convert in Rhône- Alpes in 2012. Ramsay’s Managing Director Christopher Rex said the acquisition of Clinique de l’Union was a positive step in expanding the Ramsay Santé business. “We have been cautiously analysing opportunities in France since entering the market three years ago. Given the market dynamics in Europe, we have only actively pursued those opportunities that have met our strict investment criteria,” Mr Rex said. “Clinique de l’Union is a significant hospital in its region and a quality business. It has a lot of growth potential given the demographics of the region – a growing and ageing population - and the major part that it plays in meeting the region’s health care needs. We are very excited about its addition to our French portfolio.” He said the French hospital market remained highly fragmented and he expected further opportunities like Clinique de l’Union, which was previously owned by a group of doctors, to present over time. “This acquisition fits with our strategy of bolt-on acquisitions where we think our healthcare management experience can enhance the facility.” Ramsay UK CEO Jill Watts with the award Ramsay Indonesia Tops for JCI ramsa y WINTER 2013 TRW 3 Gold Coast prostate cancer sufferers will now be able to access the most advanced treatment on the Gold Coast with John Flynn Private Hospital announcing the installation of the da Vinci® Surgical Robot System. Previously only available if Gold Coast patients wanted to travel to Brisbane or Sydney for the procedure, the installation of the robot at John Flynn Private Hospital next month will allow urologists to offer robotic-assisted prostatectomies without patients having to leave the region. John Flynn Private CEO Greg Jenke said he was delighted that the hospital would be able to offer patients who were suitable candidates this superior, minimally invasive surgical option for radical prostate surgery. “The da Vinci prostatectomy is innovative technology that offers extraordinary benefits to patients and revolutionises the treatment for prostate cancer,” John Flynn Private Urologist, Dr Alistair Campbell said. “It enables urologists to operate in the difficult to get to lower pelvis through very small incisions with unmatched precision. It is arguably the most effective, least invasive surgical approach to prostate cancer treatment.” In the USA, over two thirds of all radical prostatectomies are currently performed using this technology where the robot replicates the surgeon’s hand movements. It makes for an intuitive approach with a high level of precision, allowing surgeons to perform this complex procedure using keyhole surgery, needing incisions of less than 1cm compared to an incision of up to 10 – 20cm for a traditional radical prostatectomy. “Benefits to patients include less pain, shorter stay in hospital, and less risk of infection,” Dr Campbell said. “Typically a patient who has undergone the radical prostatectomy using the da Vinci® Surgical System can expect a shorter hospital stay and return to normal daily activities.” Urologists at John Flynn are looking to offer minimally invasive complex urological surgeries of the prostate and kidney to patients from the Gold Coast, Tweed and Northern Rivers. RS Premier Surabaya has gained international accreditation with the Joint Commission International (JCI) making it the only hospital in Surabaya and the eastern part of Indonesia to be internationally accredited. Receiving the endorsement on 6 March 2013, RS Premier Surabaya is now the third Ramsay hospital in Indonesia to receive the prestigious JCI accreditation. President Director Ramsay Indonesia Jusup Halimi said the management team, doctors and staff all worked extremely hard to achieve the excellent result. “Only seven Indonesian Hospitals have international accreditation with JCI and Ramsay Health Care has three of these hospitals,” Jusup said. “No other Indonesian Hospital group has all their hospitals internationally accredited. “Ramsay’s commitment to accreditation shows its strong focus on patient safety by providing a high standard of quality care to all patients.” Ramsay Chief Operating Officer Danny Sims said the achievement was fantastic for Ramsay Indonesia. “We are really proud of our Indonesian facilities. Achieving this international accreditation is recognition of the importance we place on safety and quality,” Danny said.
