Victorian Health Minister David Davis, joined Ramsay Managing Director Chris Rex; Warringal Hospital CEO Graham Clarke; and Mayor of Banyule Council Cr Wayne Phillips; to mark the start of the development at the hospital. The project, funded by Ramsay Health Care, will see the hospital grow to a 215-bed facility and more than double its number of operating theatres. The redevelopment will include the construction of new facilities including; • 2 surgical wards; • 5 operating theatres; • 64 private single rooms with ensuites; • 12 bay recovery unit; • a custom-designed central sterilising department; • 170 car spaces The redevelopment will offer a comprehensive range of health services by developing existing services, facilities and technology, and will include specialised medical treatment options for orthopaedics, cardiothoracic, urology, gynaecology, breast/ general/colorectal/oncology/plastics/endoscopy, and ear nose and throat surgery. Warringal Hospital’s CEO Mr Clarke said the milestone marked a significant moment in the history of the hospital giving it the edge to compete with the state’s leading medical treatment centres. “The expansion will enable Warringal to continue to retain and attract the country’s leading medical experts by providing them with the professional environment required to deliver the best treatments available to patients.” Residents in the north-eastern corridor will benefit from the redevelopment which will transform Warringal Private into a full-service, flagship Ramsay Hospital, allowing the hospital to continue to deliver personalised, comprehensive care for patients. “Warringal had been operating to full capacity for several years and this expansion will help to meet the growing demand for private hospital services in the region,” said Warringal Private Hospital’s Dr Matt Benson. The Warringal Private Hospital redevelopment is scheduled for completion in late 2014. Warringal Private Hospital has opened a new Day Oncology Centre offering comprehensive cancer care for patients. The launch of Warringal’s new centre will ensure care closer to home for many cancer patients in the north-eastern suburbs. Treatments at the facility include, chemotherapy, palliative medicine and pain and symptom management and additional treatment options for nonmalignant needs. Integrated specialist services at the facility will include the treatment of all major disease types including; breast, bladder, colorectal, pancreatic, kidney, liver, lung and gynaecological cancers; neuroendocrine and brain tumours; lymphoma; and other haematological malignancies. “Warringal’s cancer treatment and support precinct will deliver cancer treatment, management and care services utilising a team-care approach to enhance the quality of life for those with cancer,” Warringal CEO Mr Graham Clarke said. “Through the development of this facility we believe Warringal will continue to be at the forefront of private cancer treatment to ensure the best possible results for our patients,” Mr Clarke said. The centre is expected to cater for around 6000 patients in 2013 and will provide beautiful views in a modern, spacious and comfortable environment for patients, as well as timely access to appointments to ensure patient assurance, comfort and well-being. The Day Oncology Centre will also include cancer education and support services including a ‘Living With Cancer’ education program, and an on-site wig bank designed to provide additional support for patients who have suffered hair loss as a consequence of treatment for cancer. This facility was funded by Ramsay Health Care and forms part of the broader expansion and redevelopment of Warringal Private Hospital.
