The new development at Kareena, costing over $20 million will include 6 new consulting suites, a new Day Oncology Unit, an additional Operating Theatre and the inclusion of the single room strategy across all existing wards. The development will allow Kareena to add to its current services Neuro spinal surgery, Opthalmic surgery, bariatric surgery and a chemotherapy unit most of which until now Sutherland Shire residents have had to travel outside the Shire to avail themselves of these services in a private hospital setting. The street presence of Kareena will change as a new building that faces the Kingsway will be constructed above the existing car park. The Surgical ward which currently has 18 beds will increase to 36 beds. A second Operating Theatre will be partially constructed (cold shell stage) for future growth, and the Maternity Unit will receive an additional Special Care Nursery cot with 18 private postnatal rooms. Also included in the developments are expansions for both the Pharmacy and Stores Departments, and relocation of the ICU Unit and Medical Records Department. Kareena now faces a 4 week design phase before commencement of the major on site works in August of this year. Kareena Private CEO, Steven Schultze said “We’re very excited about this development and for the future of Kareena Private. This development will provide an increase to not only health services in the Shire but also Increased employment opportunities for the local community with the addition of approximately 100 nursing and ancillary positions ”. “We’re certain that the private patients of the Sutherland Shire will also benefit from the introduction of Chemotherapy services at the hospital and being close to their home support networks”. Ramsay announces new Infusion Centre for Western Sydney Ramsay launches Mental Health Services in Campbelltown To support the growing demand for Oncology and Infusion services in Sydney’s West, Ramsay Health Care have announced the opening of a purpose-built service located within Westmead Specialist Centre, in mid July 2013. Westmead Private CEO Tim Daniel said the new facilities would double the capacity of the current oncology and infusion services at Westmead Private Hospital giving patients more comfort and space as they deal with what is a challenging time in their lives. “The wonderful team of dedicated clinical staff whom many oncology patients from the West have come to know and admire over the years will be transferring to this new unit, and we are very proud of the wonderful and caring support they provide,” said Tim. The new facility also includes consulting suites for specialist oncologists. Hollywood Clinic expansion project Expansion works have commenced on Hollywood Private Hospital’s acute care mental health facility, The Hollywood Clinic. The expansion will see The Clinic gain 30 new beds, a new dining room and gymnasium. Ramsay Health Care has announced that it will open a new mental health unit in Campbelltown in October 2013. Northside Macarthur Clinic will be located within the hospital that was previously known as Macarthur Private Hospital and closed by Ramsay in June 2008. The facility will contain 35 inpatient beds and will treat all general mental health disorders, provide ECT services and a range of day programs. Psychiatrists will be located in medical suites on-site. Northside Macarthur Clinic joins The Northside Group with sister hospitals in Wentworthville, Greenwich and Cremorne. WA Health Minister Kim Hames formally opened Joondalup Private Hospital in June. The 145 bed private hospital has been built next to the Joondalup Health Campus. Mr Hames said the new hospital gave residents in Perth’s northern suburbs more treatment options close to home and also freed up existing beds for public patients. The opening of the private hospital almost brings to completion the massive $390 million redevelopment of Joondalup Health Campus. Work is now being finalised on the medical clinics, a new chemotherapy unit, a clinical unit and expanded day surgery. New Hydrotherapy Pool for Lawrence Hargrave The hydrotherapy pool at Lawrence Hargrave Private Hospital was recently opened following a significant renovation of the existing facility. Major upgrades were made to the pool and its surrounds, including; improved patient access, new change facilities for both patients and staff, as well as new plant facilities leading to better water and air quality. The vast improvements have been keenly welcomed by the pool’s many users, some of whom have been accessing the services for more than 20 years. DEVELOPMENTS
