COMMUNITY NEWS Ozharvest at Waverley Ozharvest is a for-impact charitable organization with a purpose to Nourish Our Country. Waverley Private Hospital Chef Brian O’Donnell instigated the program within the hospital as well as introducing another seven Ramsay hospitals to the concept. Established in November 2004, OzHarvest is one of a kind; it is the only food rescue organization that rescues all types of food in Australia. It is an effective service and is provided free to the donators and receivers. The food is picked up and delivered the same day using refrigerated vans with a changing daily schedule. It began with a simple concept, to rescue excess food from restaurants, hotels, retailers, food outlets, TV sets, film shoots, supermarkets and corporate kitchens that would otherwise be discarded, and deliver to charities that feed the disadvantaged, homeless, youth and people-in-crisis and vulnerable Australians in need. At the same time, thousands of tonnes of food have been saved from ending up as landfill. Since joining the program in March, Waverley Private has donated 31 kilos of food which is 93 meals. Majority of food collected from the hospital was donated to the Jesuran Wellness Centre and With One Voice Choir who are located in Dandenong. Both these centres cater to hundreds of people and families. Each week over 60 tonnes of quality food that would otherwise end up in landfill from Waverley Private Chef Brian O’Donnell gets behind the OzHarvest Program. NATIONAL SAFETY Lost Time Injury Rate Reaches a Record Breaking Low A lost-time injury is defined as an occurrence that resulted in a fatality, permanent disability or time lost from work of one day/ shift or more. This definition comes from the Australian standard: Workplace Injury and Disease Recording Standard (Australian Standard 1885.1–1990), published by Standards Australia. Lost-time injury frequency rates are the number of lost-time injuries within a given period relative to the total number of hours worked in the same period (12 months). 2015 and 2016 has seen the rolling Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate of Ramsay Australia break record after record following its initial dip below 3.0 in March 2015. Our continued stellar performance has led to the LTIFR plummeting to 1.91 for the 12 month rolling period as at March 2016. This is less than one fifth of the Australian Health Industry Benchmark of 9.9 for lost time injuries of more than one week. An LTIFR is one KPI which indicates the seriousness of injuries and demonstrates our dedication to a safe workplace for all workers, patients and visitors.
