Rehabilitation quality and safety results
Recovering after an injury, illness or surgery can be challenging. Our rehabilitation programs are designed to help you regain strength, independence and confidence at your own pace.
When you begin a Ramsay rehabilitation program, you’ll be cared for by a team of experienced health professionals who take the time to understand your needs. After a thorough assessment, we’ll work with you to create a personalised therapy plan focused on your goals.
Our specialist teams offer a wide range of tailored rehabilitation programs, including:
Orthopaedic
For patients who have had joint replacement or back surgery, or have experienced a fracture or soft tissue injury.
Reconditioning
To regain strength and function following surgery, hospitalisation or the exacerbation of a chronic condition.
Neurological
To support recovery following a stroke or brain injury, or to help in managing a neurological condition such as Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis.
Cardiac
For patients who have undergone heart surgery or are recovering from a heart attack.
Pulmonary
To support in managing or recovering from a respiratory condition.
Persistent pain
To help manage chronic pain following an incident or accident.
Our inpatient clinical programs and patient outcomes are benchmarked though the Australasian Rehabilitation Outcome Centre and Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.
Rehabilitation outcomes
To track your progress during rehabilitation, we use a range of tools when you start your program and again when you finish. These are called 'outcome measures' and they help us understand how much you’ve improved and make sure you’re receiving safe, effective and appropriate care.
Some assessments are used for everyone, while others are chosen based on your specific needs and goals. All are based on best practice and current clinical evidence.
Two outcome measures used for all inpatients are:
Functional Independence Measure (FIM)
During your stay, we use a Functional Independence Measure – or FIM – to help track your recovery. This score is based on an assessment by a trained member of your rehabilitation team and shows how well you’re managing everyday tasks and activities. It also looks at areas like social interaction and emotional wellbeing. The higher your score when you leave, the more progress you’ve made. We use the FIM with every inpatient and compare our results with hospitals across Australia, so we can keep improving the care we provide.
Average Length of stay (ALOS)
We aim to help you recover as effectively and efficiently as possible. One way we measure this is through average length of stay. If your stay is shorter than the national average, it may indicate that your goals were reached efficiently, while maintaining appropriate standards of care.
