How Ramsay Mental Health can help you
At Ramsay Health Care, we provide a range of treatment options to support your mental health. Below is a general overview of our core services, but your doctor or care team will personalise your treatment plan based on your specific needs and circumstances. Day programs
Day programs are structured, therapeutic group programs that focus on building life skills, managing symptoms and preventing relapse. They are often recommended following an inpatient stay to support people in continuing with their recovery plan as they return to everyday life. Ramsay offers both half-day and full-day programs, which run once or a few times a week for a set period.
Inpatient programs
If you or your loved one has a serious mental health condition, or one that requires close supervision, your GP or mental health specialist might recommend an inpatient program. We offer inpatient care for several conditions, including anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, PTSD and trauma, psychosis and more. Each program is holistic and can be tailored to meet individual needs.
Neurostimulation services
Ramsay Health Care is passionate about providing comprehensive, evidence-based treatment options for a wide range of mental health conditions – particularly for people who have not yet found success with standard therapies or medications. These additional options include neurostimulation and medication-assisted psychotherapy.
Neurostimulation therapies use electrical or magnetic impulses to stimulate the brain to treat mental health conditions. Examples include electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS).
Medication-assisted psychotherapy can involve psychedelic medicines and dissociative anaesthetics. Ramsay Mental Health is actively involved in clinical research of these new treatments, which could provide another option for people who have treatment-resistant depression or post-traumatic stress disorder.
Outpatient consultations
An outpatient consultation is a one-on-one appointment with a psychiatrist. They are often used for assessment and diagnosis, as well as to discuss treatment strategies. You might also need one after you have finished inpatient care, for a review of your medication or for psychotherapy.
Psychiatry
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who diagnose and treat mental health conditions. They can prescribe medication and neurostimulation treatments, as well as provide psychotherapy. At Ramsay, our psychiatric services include inpatient treatment, day programs, outpatient consultations, neurostimulation and medication-assisted psychotherapy.
Psychology
A psychologist is a trained professional who studies human behavior, emotions, and mental processes. Our dedicated psychological service at Ramsay Psychology provides therapy for a range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, post-natal depression, grief and more. We take a flexible and compassionate approach to care, offering both in-person appointments and telehealth video calls.
How to make an appointment
If you would like to book an appointment with Ramsay Mental Health, we recommend speaking with your GP first, as many of our services require a referral.
You do not need a referral to see a Ramsay psychologist. However, if you meet the eligibility criteria for a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) under the Better Access scheme, your GP can provide one. This allows you to claim a Medicare rebate, helping to reduce your out-of-pocket costs. Your GP can advise whether your condition qualifies for this support.
