Bariatric surgery team
At Ramsay, bariatric care is often delivered by a multidisciplinary team, which may include surgeons, nurses, dietitians, psychologists, exercise physiologists, and more. By working together, they can take a comprehensive approach and tailor your care to suit your individual needs. This means they can provide you with guidance and support at every stage – from pre-surgery preparation to post-surgery recovery and long-term success.

Dietitian
A dietitian provides support to help establish essential changes in eating habits. This includes guidance on healthy food choices and the development of sustainable eating patterns.
In cases where surgery is planned, a dietitian will assist with a pre-surgery diet and post-surgery meal plan to help with recovery and long-term success.
Physician
Obesity is a significant risk factor for various health conditions, including type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, and certain types of cancer.
A physician or general practitioner (GP) works closely with the broader care team to manage these conditions and optimise health prior to surgery. Ongoing support is also provided after surgery as part of long-term care.
Psychologist
The effects of obesity can extend beyond physical health, impacting mental wellbeing as well. A psychologist may be recommended to help address emotional or psychological concerns before or after surgery.
Psychological support is an important aspect of bariatric care – helping manage challenges, develop positive coping strategies and prepare for lifestyle changes.
As part of the multidisciplinary team, a psychologist provides ongoing support to promote long-term wellbeing and treatment success.
Surgeon
A bariatric surgeon helps guide the selection of the most appropriate surgical approach based on individual goals and health needs.
If surgery is required, the procedure is tailored to align with the patient’s specific circumstances.
