Dr Alejandro Arbelaez

Dr Alejandro Arbelaez is a Haematologist, working in partnership with Dr Hanlon Sia, Dr Herman Lee and Dr Shannon Emmett.

After completing his Basic Physician Training at Mater Health Services in Brisbane in 2012, Dr Arbelaez underwent joint clinical and pathology training in Haematology at Mater Health Services and the Royal Brisbane and Women Hospital. During his training, he was involved in clinical and laboratory activities including diagnosis and management of acute and chronic leukaemia, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, myelodysplasia and myeloproliferative neoplasms, autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation, haemoglobinopathies, blood bank, thrombosis and haemostasis.

After being granted dual Fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, Dr Arbelaez worked as Senior Registrar at the Princess Alexandra Hospital before moving to the Gold Coast in 2017.

Dr Arbelaez is very interested in new developments in haematology. He has participated in clinical trials and has been involved in research, publishing in peer reviewed journals and presenting his work at national and international meetings. Dr Arbelaez has also been involved in teaching and academic activities with medical students from the University of Queensland and Griffith University.

Dr Arbelaez is aware of the importance of good communication with GPs to ensure supportive, safe and evidence-based care for his patients.
