Dr Avelyn Wong

Dr Avelyn Wong is a consultant gynaecologist and advanced laparoscopic surgeon, with a focus on complex gynaecological surgery and minimally invasive gynaecology.  She understands the importance of actively listening to her patients and ensuring quality and individualised care. 

 

Since obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours at Monash University, she went on to complete specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Mercy Hospital in Melbourne. Avelyn is one of the few specialists selected to complete additional expert training with an Advanced Laparoscopy Fellowship through the Australasian Gynaecology Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES).  

 

She is a consultant gynaecologist at two of Melbourne's leading tertiary women’s hospitals: The Royal Women's Hospital and The Mercy Hospital for Women, where she is engaged in sharing her skills by teaching and supervising trainee specialists. To contribute to the ongoing improvement of women’s health, Avelyn is a lead researcher in several clinical trials and her research has been presented at both national and international gynaecology conferences.

 

Avelyn is passionate about providing an inclusive, patient-centred approach to care, and empowering her patients with knowledge and support.

 

Her qualifications and career experience have equipped her with the skills to offer minimally invasive options for complex surgical cases including excisional surgery for severe or stage IV endometriosis, large fibroids or difficult hysterectomies. This allows patients less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stay and faster recovery. Avelyn also welcomes referrals for general gynaecological services including the management of heavy or painful periods, ovarian cysts, endometrial polyps, insertion of IUDs and abnormal cervical screening tests. 

 

When not working, Avelyn enjoys an active lifestyle, spending time outdoors with her two young children and her lively golden retriever.
