About

Dr Bernard Schick is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who is interested in hand and wrist surgery.  He also has interest in bone and soft tissue trauma to the hand including strong experience managing complex wrist injuries.  He performs the full gambit of reconstructive hand surgery and is trained in microsurgery, small joint replacement, wrist arthroscopy and endoscopic carpal tunnel release using the single portal technique (Microaire), which has the advantage of avoiding any incisions on the palm. Dupuytren’s surgery is also a special interest and he performs Xiaflex (Collagenase) injections for this condition when indicated.

Dr Schick also has a Post Graduate Sports Medicine degree and is enthusiastic about returning patients to their sporting and work activities as soon as possible after injury or surgery. He is a passionate educator and his many teaching commitments include being the Director of Training for Orthopaedic Surgical Trainees at Sydney Hospital. He is a Senior Lecturer at Sydney University and the Microsurgery Course Coordinator for the Masters of Surgery. He is heavily involved in clinical and laboratory research and regularly is asked to present his expertise at hand surgery meetings.

Dr Schick has two public hospital VMO appointments including the prestigious Sydney Hospital Hand Surgery unit as well as Prince of Wales Hospital as an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hand and wrist surgery. For private patients he operates at Wollongong Private Hospital. Among other subspecialty training he completed a Hand Surgery specialist fellowship at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.

For private patients on the South Coast, he operates at Wollongong Private Hospital and Nowra Private Hospital. Dr Schick consults from Figtree Private Hospital and Dr Paul Jarman’s rooms in Nowra. For all appointments, please contact Dr Schick’s Randwick rooms.
