About

Dr Garry Hamilton is a cardiologist with an interest in interventional cardiology and structural heart disease. He consults at Austin Health and Warringal Private Hospital.

He is the clinical lead of the Rapid Access Chest Pain Assessment Service at Austin Health.

Dr Hamilton completed his cardiology training in Melbourne and Hobart. During his training at Austin Health, he was awarded the prize for performance in the RACP Physicians Examinations within his training consortium. He subsequently completed two years of subspecialty fellowship training at King’s College Hospital, London, supported by the Dr MG Ciezar Memorial Scholarship, where he gained experience in coronary intervention and structural heart procedures.

Dr Hamilton holds a PhD supported by a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) fellowship. His research has been published in peer-reviewed cardiovascular journals, and he has presented at national and international scientific meetings.

He holds an academic appointment with the University of Melbourne and is involved in teaching and supervision of junior doctors and cardiology trainees.

His clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of coronary and structural heart disease, with particular expertise in:

  • Coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention, including intracoronary imaging and calcium modification techniques
  • Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)
  • Mitral and tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (MTEER/TTEER)
  • Transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve replacement
  • Other structural heart interventions, including patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure and treatment of paravalvular leaks

Dr Hamilton values a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach and works closely with patients, their families, referring clinicians, and the broader multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and high-quality care. He aims to ensure patients and their families feel informed, supported, and confident throughout their care.
