About

Dr. James Roche is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in hip and knee surgery. He graduated with distinction from Imperial College School of Medicine, London, in 1999, and completed advanced training in Orthopaedics at Nottingham University Hospital. Dr. Roche further honed his skills with fellowships in complex joint replacement and revision surgeries in Perth before being appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in 2012.

In 2016, Dr. Roche moved to Rockhampton and has since pioneered robotic hip and knee replacements in Central Queensland, becoming the first surgeon to use the Mako robotic system in 2020. He offers advanced, minimally invasive techniques for hip and knee surgeries, including the Direct Superior Approach for hip replacements, which reduces pain and improves recovery.

Dr. Roche has aninterest in knee injuries, including meniscal repairs and ligament reconstructions, especially for young athletes. He also offers comprehensive lower limb care, including foot and ankle surgery, carpal tunnel and hand surgery, and trauma treatments. Dr. Roche regularly teaches other surgeons advanced techniques and is known for his experience with Stryker implants and robotic-assisted surgeries.

He also provides services in Gladstone and Emerald and accepts after-hours and trauma referrals.
