Dr James Walcott

Dr Walcott has undertaken extensive post-fellowship training in Australia and the United Kingdom, including at Austin and Box Hill Hospitals in Melbourne, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, and St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, UK. He subsequently worked as a consultant HPB and liver transplant surgeon at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and as a consultant HPB surgeon in Launceston. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society for HPB Surgery (AANZHPBA).

Dr Walcott performs minimally invasive and open surgery for benign and malignant conditions of the upper gastrointestinal tract, liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas and small bowel. His UGI practice includes assessment and surgical management of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), hiatus hernia and other oesophageal and gastric conditions, as well as gallstone disease, cholecystitis and other biliary disorders.

He also has extensive experience in hernia surgery, including minimally invasive groin and abdominal wall hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. His broad general surgical experience includes emergency surgery and trauma, including significant experience providing surgical care in rural and remote Australia.

Dr Walcott is credentialed through the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) to perform upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP, allowing for comprehensive investigation and management of many gastrointestinal and biliary conditions.

He takes a patient-centred approach to surgical care, with an emphasis on clear communication, evidence-based treatment and minimally invasive techniques where appropriate
