Dr James Winston

Dr James Winston is a Melbourne-based gastroenterologist and hepatologist who combines public practice at the Austin Hospital with private practice that includes Linacre Private Hospital in Hampton. Dr Winston investigates and treats all gastroenterological conditions including irritable bowel syndrome, gastro-oesophageal reflux, iron deficiency anaemia, coeliac disease, liver disease including fatty liver disease, and has a clinical interest in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease / ulcerative colitis).

 

Dr Winston completed his medical degree and Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours in the United Kingdom. He then worked in the National Health Service (NHS) across multiple respected hospitals including the Royal London Hospital, during which time he obtained his MRCP (UK) qualification. After relocating to Australia, Dr Winston undertook physician training at Eastern Health and advanced gastroenterology training at hospitals including The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Eastern Health. He acquired subspecialist expertise through a fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease and contributed to research in gastrointestinal medicine.

 

His services include gastroscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy and bowel cancer screening. Dr Winston is available for urgent appointments and procedures and is happy to speak directly with referring practitioners. He is committed to enhancing patient health and delivering compassionate patient-centred medical care.
