About

Dr John Estens is an orthopaedic surgeon with advanced training in foot and ankle surgery.

Dr Estens grew up on a farm in north-west NSW. He obtained a B(Med) Sci at Sydney University, and a MBBS at the University of Queensland.

He completed his orthopaedic surgery training in the Hunter New England network and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in January 2016.

Dr Estens completed a local foot and ankle fellowship with Drs James O’Sullivan, David Nicholson and Pankaj Rao.

He then travelled to Bordeaux, France to complete a GRECMIP fellowship in minimally invasive and percutaneous foot and ankle surgery at Hôpital Pellegrin, under the guidance of Dr Olivier Laffenêtre.

Most recently, he has undertaken a period of additional training at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide, in paediatric orthopaedics.

Dr Estens provides honest and individualised advice. His areas of interest include foot and ankle surgery, lower limb surgery, adult and paediatric trauma and clinical education.

His training in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery provides advantages for his patients in terms of less tissue disturbance, better outcomes and a shorter hospital stay.

Dr Estens is consulting at the Lake Macquarie Specialist Suites and operating at both Warners Bay and Lake Macquarie Private Hospitals.

He is a VMO at Maitland Public Hospital and also has rooms at the Maitland Orthopaedic and Rehab Specialists Centre.
