Jon-Paul was born and raised in Wales. He graduated from Bristol Medical School in the United Kingdom in 1996, where he was awarded his MB ChB. He completed his residency and general surgical training in the South West of England and was subsequently awarded Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS).

Prior to commencing higher urological training, Jon-Paul undertook two years of research at the Bristol Urological Institute, focusing on bladder cancer. This work culminated in the award of his Doctor of Medicine (MD). He then completed higher urological training in Oxford and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Urology (FRCS (Urol)).

He undertook further training in Switzerland and Egypt, followed by a one-year Fellowship at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Jon-Paul elected to remain in Queensland, where he successfully completed the Australian Fellowship examination and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Urology (FRACS (Urol)).

Jon-Paul’s clinical practice includes general urology, urological cancers, stone disease, benign prostate disease and female urology. He has a sub-specialist interest in minimally invasive robotic surgery for prostate cancer.

He is committed to providing patient-centred care and aims to support patients and their families through clear communication and a compassionate approach.

Jon-Paul maintains an active interest in research and has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international urological meetings. He is involved in teaching medical students and junior doctors and holds an appointment as Associate Professor at the University of Queensland. His previous roles include Urological Training Supervisor at Redcliffe Hospital and Chair of the Queensland Training Committee for Urology. He continues to serve as a National Hospital Assessor for the Urological Society.

Outside of medicine, Jon-Paul is married with two children and enjoys following Liverpool Football Club, the Queensland Reds and the Redcliffe Dolphins. He continues to believe that Welsh Rugby will rise again!
