Dr Josh Geffen (BMBS, FRANZCP) studied medicine at Flinders University of South Australia graduating in 1993. He began his medical career in Queensland in 1994 as medical resident, training in psychiatry and qualifying as a specialist in 2000. Dr Geffen has been a psychiatrist in both public health (Princess Alexandra, Mater and Logan Hospitals) and private practice. For 20 years he served as the Medical Director of ECT at Toowong Private Hospital until its closure in 2025. Currently he is in full time private practice at Ramsay Clinic New Farm where he also provides hospital based neurostimulation treatment (ECT and ketamine treatment of depression). Dr Geffen enjoys neuropsychiatry treating a broad range of conditions, with particular interest in severe mood disorders and adult ADHD.
Dr Geffen has actively sought to further public understanding of depression and ADHD. He has made several media appearances aimed at reducing stigma associated with both mental illness and neurostimulation treatment. Dr Geffen's clinical roles are private practice and neurostimulation treatment, however he has also published research in pharmacotherapy, ADHD management and the community case management. Formerly a reviewer for the Medical Journal of Australia, he remains an active medical writer and lecturer and contributes to medical education in his areas of expertise.
