Dr Josh Hammerschlag is a General Surgeon with a clinical focus in Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) and Bariatric Surgery through the AANZGOSA (Australian & Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric & Oesophageal Surgery Association) post-fellowship program. He treats a wide range of benign and malignant oesophagogastric conditions, including oesophageal and gastric cancer, GORD, hiatus hernia, and oesophageal motility disorders. He also performs weight loss (bariatric) surgery, including revisional procedures.
Dr Hammerschlag completed his medical and surgical training at Monash Health, followed by advanced specialist training at Christchurch Hospital (NZ) and The Austin Hospital in open and minimally invasive Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery.
He consults and operates at Peninsula Private Hospital, with public appointments at Frankston Hospital and Monash Health, offering expert surgical care in both private and public healthcare settings.
In addition to his Upper GI work, Dr Hammerschlag is an experienced General Surgeon, regularly performing gallbladder surgery, simple and complex hernia repairs, and emergency abdominal procedures.
