Clinical Practice
Dr Maan Alwan is a dual-qualified Clinical and Laboratory Haematologist with expertise across both malignant and non-malignant haematology. He completed his specialist training at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and has a broad scope of practice encompassing clinical and laboratory haematology. Dr Alwan has particular clinical focus in myeloma, lymphoma and lymphoproliferative disorders, thrombosis and haemostasis, and bone marrow dysfunction including cytopenia management. He provides patient-centred, evidence-based care with an emphasis on accurate diagnosis and integrated management. Dr Alwan’s private consulting rooms are located at Western Haematology & Oncology Clinics in West Perth and Midland. He also works part-time as a laboratory haematologist at Western Diagnostic Pathology. He provides consulting services at Hollywood Private Hospital.
Background and Training
Dr Alwan completed his specialist training at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, gaining broad experience across both clinical and laboratory haematology. His combined clinical and diagnostic background supports an integrated approach to patient care and multidisciplinary collaboration. Dr Alwan holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Baghdad (2004). He obtained his AMC Certificate from the Australian Medical Council in 2009 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Adult Medicine Division) in 2017. He subsequently attained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2018.
Research and Clinical Trials
As a clinical investigator at the Perth Blood Institute, Dr Alwan is actively involved in clinical trials and research, with a focus on myeloma, lymphoma, and clotting and bleeding disorders. His research involvement supports patient access to emerging therapies and contributes to advances in haematology care.
