Dr Matt Mason

Matt is a Radiation Oncologist with over 10 years of experience in Oncology. After graduating from Nottingham University, he became a Clinical Oncologist, training at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, UK. With interests in technical radiotherapy he completed a two year clinical fellowship at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto, Canada. This experience focused on the management of head and neck malignancies, CNS tumours and spinal stereotactic radiotherapy.

 

Matt worked as a Locum Consultant at St James University Hospital. Having moved to Australia and achieving specialist recognition, Matt worked as a Staff Specialist in Radiation Oncology at the Calvary Mater in Newcastle. Head and Neck cancer management has remained a strong interest of Matt’s. He has also developed interests in the management of Breast and Skin Cancers.

 

Matt takes an active role in research and has several publications. He enjoys providing clinical teaching for patients, students and trainees.

Research interests

Matt is interested in Patient Reported Outcomes and how these might guide patient care. He also is interested in technical radiotherapy advances to improve cancer control and reduce patient side effects.
