Dr Matthew Schwass is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in complex hip and knee replacement, revision arthroplasty, trauma surgery, and sports injury management. He provides comprehensive orthopaedic care across both public (Coffs Harbour Hospital) and private (Baringa Hospital) settings.

Dr Schwass has undertaken extensive specialist training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, followed by fellowship training in complex and revision joint replacement and musculoskeletal tumour surgery at major tertiary centres including Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital, Westmead Children’s Hospital, and Sydney Children’s Hospital.

His clinical services includes:

• Hip Replacement – Complex primary and revision arthroplasty using both minimally invasive anterior and posterior approaches, with personalised CT-based planning and patient-specific instrumentation. Experienced in proximal femoral and total femoral reconstruction for severe bone loss or tumour cases.
• Knee Replacement – Complex primary and revision knee arthroplasty with individualised alignment strategies combining kinematic and mechanical principles, and advanced reconstruction techniques including hinge and distal femoral replacements.
• Fracture Management – Comprehensive management of trauma and fractures across all age groups, including complex intra-articular fractures, peri-prosthetic fractures, and joint stabilisation procedures.
• Sports Injury & Reconstruction – Management of sports-related injuries, particularly ACL and multi-ligament knee reconstructions, utilising autograft and allograft techniques tailored to patient needs and athletic goals.
