Dr Michael Chi Yuan Nam

Dr Michael Chi Yuan Nam is a Specialist Cardiologist with an interest in electrophysiology. He specialises in all things related to the diagnosis, management and follow-up of heart rhythm disorders including cardiac tachyarrhythmias such as Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and atrial fibrillation, and cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.

Originally from the UK, Michael graduated at Cardiff University and completed Cardiology advanced training in Hampshire. In 2015, he became the first PhD research fellow at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. There, he conducted a project on the vasodilatory effects of insulin on the heart, which earned him a finalist position at the American Society of Echocardiography, Asia Pacific Society of Cardiology, and the Royal Society of Medicine Young Investigator awards. He has since published over 20 scientific articles in peer-review journals. In 2020, he completed a Clinical Fellowship at Royal Melbourne Hospital under world-renowned electrophysiologist Professor Jon Kalman.

Michael is now back on the Sunshine Coast to deliver clinical services in cardiac electrophysiology. He maintains a keen interest in research and is already primed for leading upcoming research projects in collaboration with the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Outside of work, he enjoys the culinary arts. This stems from his student days when he was forced to cook for himself and his housemates. With over 20 years of travel, food blogging, and recipe experimentation on his wife, he now regularly serves up multinational dishes for three high-demanding household food critics.

Michael consults in Birtinya, Caboolture, Bribie Island and Gympie and operates privately at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital.
