Dr Peter Skillington is an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon who has recently relocated to the Sunshine Coast, QLD. He now provides specialist care at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital, where he continues his long-standing commitment to heart and chest surgery.
Dr Skillington began his medical journey at the University of Tasmania, graduating in 1977. He went on to complete advanced training in cardiothoracic surgery, earning his Fellowship in 1987. His training took him across some of the world’s leading hospitals, including the Alfred Hospital and Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, and internationally to the UK and the USA.
For over three decades, Dr Skillington worked as a senior cardiothoracic surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH). There, he became known for his pioneering work in aortic valve replacement, particularly the ROSS procedure, and for developing a leading service in adult congenital heart surgery.
Now based on the Sunshine Coast, Dr Skillington continues to provide compassionate care to patients in need of cardiothoracic surgery.
