About Professor Phil Thompson
Professor Thompson is an experienced Specialist Physician and clinician, teacher and researcher in all facets of adult respiratory disease. His main clinical interests are asthma, allergy, complex airway diseases, rare lung diseases, COPD, upper airway diseases cough and breathlessness. He is the Director of the Lung Health Clinic and Clinical Professor at The University of WA and at Curtin University and is the Head of the Molecular Genetics and Inflammation Unit, The Institute of Respiratory Medicine. He is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital where he heads the Complex Airways Unit.
He was previously a Winthrop Professor at The Institute of Respiratory Medicine, President of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and Editor in Chief of the medical journal Respirology. He has received multiple awards for his contributions to respiratory medicine and research. He has 280 publications in refereed journals and texts and been in receipt of CRC and NH&MRC program and project grants.
