Dr Rajith Mendis is General Surgeon with an interest in head & neck surgery and surgical oncology with extensive subspecialty training in a range of head and neck, and endocrine conditions including reconstruction.
After obtaining his MBBS from UNSW he undertook general surgery training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2019. In 2020-2021 he undertook training as the Head and Neck and Surgical Oncology Fellow at Westmead Hospital. He completed further post-fellowship training in Head and Neck and microvascular reconstruction at Wollongong hospital in 2022 and Chris O'Brien Lifehouse hospital in 2023.
Dr Mendis consults at Rouse Hill and is a member of General Surgeons Australia (GSA), Australia and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons (ANZES) and Australia and New Zealand Head and Neck Cancer Society (ANZHNCS).
He has published widely in peer reviewed journals, authored book chapters and is actively involved in training, education and research.
Interests include:
- Oral cavity lesions and cancer
- Advanced skin cancers including those requiring grafts and flaps
- Thyroid and parathyroid conditions
- Parotid gland neoplasms and other salivary gland conditions
- Neck lumps
- Melanoma including sentinel lymph node biopsy and nodal dissection (neck, axillary and groin)
- Soft tissue tumours including lipoma and sarcoma
