About

Dr Fernandes is currently working at Greenslopes Private Hospital and in the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) team at Mater Hospital, Brisbane. After completing his medical studies at the University of Melbourne, he undertook advanced training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Prince Charles Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and Mater Hospital.

Dr Fernandes is an active researcher in the Mater IBD Research Group, undertaking original research, providing supervision and as an investigator in multiple international clinical trials of new treatments for inflammatory bowel disease and eosinophilic oesophagitis. He is currently completing a clinical and research IBD fellowship at Mater Hospital, including a PhD on the post-operative management of Crohn’s disease. His other special interests include intestinal ultrasound and the endoscopic management of IBD-associated strictures.
