Dr Ross Baker

Clinical Practice

Professor Ross Baker is a senior Specialist Physician in Haematology and Pathology, specialising in the management of thrombosis and disorders of haemostasis. He has extensive experience in both clinical and academic haematology and previously served as Director of the Thrombosis and Haemophilia Centre of Western Australia at Royal Perth Hospital. Professor Baker currently holds a number of senior leadership roles, including Chairman of the Perth Blood Institute and Director of the Western Australian Centre of Thrombosis and Haemostasis at Murdoch University. He is also Director of the Hollywood Haemophilia Treatment Centre in Perth and works as a senior consultant haematologist at Haematology West and Western Diagnostic Pathology.

 

Background, Training, Research
Professor Baker completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of New South Wales in 1984. He subsequently undertook specialist training in haematology and pathology and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 1991. Professor Baker has published more than 90 peer-reviewed articles and has made significant contributions to research in thrombosis and haemostasis. He is currently the principal investigator for several clinical trials at the Perth Blood Institute and has led a number of multicentre international investigator-initiated studies. He is an active member of several national and international haematology organisations, including the Australasian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and the Asia-Pacific Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. Professor Baker is currently Co-Chair of the Australasian National Thrombosis Working Party and serves as a Clinical Expert Reviewer for the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
