About

Raised in Hobart, Ryan studied medicine at the University of Tasmania and completed his internship at The Royal Hobart Hospital. He then moved overseas for basic surgical training in the UK, before returning to Australia for ENT registrar training in Melbourne, with rotations including six months at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Monash adult and children’s hospitals, Alfred Hospital, Western Hospital and Austin Hospital. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2013.

Ryan went on to complete two overseas fellowships in Head and Neck Surgery. The first was at Beaumont Hospital Dublin and the National Centre for Cochlear Implantation in Ireland, where he also served as a Clinical Lecturer in ENT at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland. The second was at St George’s University Hospital London, managing adult and paediatric thyroid tumours, including minimal access thyroidectomies in selected cases. He also completed a clinical attachment at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital under Associate Professor Greg Randolph, a thyroid surgeon and past President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology.
