About

Dr Shackleton earned her medical degree at the University of Glasgow and began her surgical training at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary before emigrating to Australia.

She undertook formal surgical training in the Newcastle network and earned her FRACS in 2016 along with her Australian citizenship.

She then undertook a colorectal fellowship in Tasmania, consolidating skills in laparoscopic bowel resection for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, and perianal pathologies.

Dr Shackleton has a keen interest in surgical oncology and is about to receive a Masters in this topic from the University of Sydney.

She communicates complex medical problems and treatment options in a way patients can understand, enabling them to take an active role in their recovery.

Since her Fellowship she has divided her time between working as a public VMO in regional centres, including Lismore and Coffs Harbour, and gaining further expertise in Australia, London and Madrid.

Dr Shackleton provides surgical outreach to isolated farming communities with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and has volunteered overseas.

All of these roles have given Dr Shackleton a wide array of experience in many general surgical conditions.

Surgical conditions including all types of abdominal wall hernia (laparoscopic and open), gallbladder, melanoma and minor facial plastics, and upper and lower endoscopy (GESA accredited).

She is pleased to provide GP education on any of the above topics.
