About
Dr Rao completed her medical degree at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in India, followed by the prestigious Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), London. She subsequently obtained her Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) in Sydney.
Following her fellowship, Dr Rao undertook two additional years of advanced laparoscopic surgical training, which was recognised by the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES). She is trained in robotic surgery, a minimally invasive approach used in the management of complex pelvic conditions.
Dr Rao has an interest in minimally invasive surgery for large fibroids and advanced endometriosis. She frequently performs complex procedures such as the removal of very large fibroids through keyhole techniques, often allowing tissue to be removed through the vagina, avoiding large abdominal incisions and supporting faster recovery.
She also has experience in the precise excision of Stage IV endometriosis, including disease involving the bowel, ureter, and pelvic nerves, using meticulous surgical techniques to preserve surrounding structures while maximising symptom relief.
Dr Rao is passionate about ensuring women have access to minimally invasive options whenever it is safe and feasible, and believes strongly that patients should feel heard, informed, and empowered in their treatment decisions.
Dr Rao takes a warm and empathetic approach to care and the team at MedGyne are committed to providing compassionate, patient-centred care. She practices a shared decision-making model, working closely with each patient to develop an individualised treatment plan that aligns with their goals and values.
