About
Dr Tom Burton is a New Zealand-trained General Surgeon with expertise in general, colorectal and endoscopic surgery.
After attaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), Tom completed post-fellowship training in colorectal, bariatric and endocrine surgery at Waikato Hospital. He subsequently worked as a Consultant General Surgeon in both the public and private sectors in Nelson before relocating to the Sunshine Coast.
Tom assesses and manages a broad range of general and colorectal surgical conditions. He is experienced in laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques, open surgery, and diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, having performed more than 500 endoscopic procedures annually.
Alongside his clinical practice, Tom has a strong interest in medical education and research. He has served as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer and contributed to several peer-reviewed publications.
Tom is committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive and evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s individual needs. He welcomes enquiries from GPs and is happy to offer advice regarding referrals and patient management.
