About
Waverley Private Hospital would like to introduce Dr Tu Tran an ophthalmologist with an interest in cataract, glaucoma, and pterygium surgery. Her clinical interests include the management (laser and surgical) of glaucoma, ocular surface disease in glaucoma and cataract surgery. Her other particular interests include treatment of hemifacial spasm and blepharospasm by botulinum toxin injections.
Tu completed her medical degree at the University of Queensland and moved to the UK to train in ophthalmology in Cardiff, Wales with some of the world’s leading ophthalmology surgeons. She went on to complete her master of public health (majoring in epidemiology) prior to returning to Queensland to complete her general ophthalmology training. Thereafter, she completed a general fellowship at Queensland Eye Institute (QEI).
Tu later moved to Melbourne and completed a glaucoma fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH), where she acquired subspecialist experience in management of complex glaucoma and challenging cataract surgery. She now holds a visiting consultant ophthalmologist position at the RVEEH.
Tu is actively involved in teaching optometrists, ophthalmology fellows and registrars, nurses and orthoptists in glaucoma and regularly presents papers at ophthalmology conferences. She also volunteers as a “Visionary” for Sight for All, a volunteer charity organisation involved in training glaucoma surgery to registrars in Southeast Asia.
Tu is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and a member of the Australian Medical Association. She is a RANZCO examiner for the RACE and OBCK exams (the final year and first year exams) for ophthalmology registrar training and also sits on the expert advisory panel for Glaucoma Australia.
