Mr Timothy Unsworth-Smith

Clinical Practice

Dr Timothy Unsworth-Smith is a specialist foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon who operates privately at Joondalup and Hollywood Private Hospitals. He is a known gap provider for all private health funds and welcomes patients under workers compensation, motor vehicle accidents (MVA), Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA), and the Australian Defence Force. In addition to his expertise in foot, ankle, and trauma surgery, Dr Unsworth-Smith has a strong focus on knee arthroplasty (total knee replacement surgery). With five years of training in this area, he finds it especially rewarding to help patients regain their quality of life post-surgery. Tim is also able to converse in Spanish, which can be helpful for Spanish-speaking patients seeking care.

 

Background and Training

Dr Unsworth-Smith graduated with Honours from the University of Western Australia and completed his orthopaedic specialist training in Perth. He pursued advanced training in foot and ankle surgery across Queensland and New South Wales, completing three Foot and Ankle Fellowships with Dr Michael Lutz and Dr Ben Forster in Brisbane, Dr Simon Platt at Gold Coast University, Dr Andrew Wines in Sydney. Before entering medicine, he earned a degree in Human Movements and Business Marketing from the Queensland University of Technology and worked as an exercise physiologist. Dr Unsworth-Smith has completed volunteer work through Peru, Columbia and Argentina.

 

Research & Teaching

Dr Unsworth-Smith has conducted several research projects, which he has presented at national and international conferences. His work has been published internationally, and he remains committed to ongoing research and education to enhance patient care and medical outcomes.
